We’re proud to announce the release of our first 2020 model, the NEW Rook 3 (High EN/LTF B).
As you will probably know, the development of this new model has been a long and delicate process. We explored all design options with numerous prototypes flown in all possible flying conditions, all in order to provide the market with a wing that will fly great and feel great for pilots in the high B class. We learned a lot with the aerofoil used on Queen 2, the Sports Class wing which has been on just about any podium over the last two-years period. All this extensive knowledge has gone into the new Rook 3 design, making it the highest-performing, nicest wing in its class right now.
New look!
The new-look underscores the Triple Seven philosophy; performance and safety optimisation above all. The new design uses the smallest number of seams possible, meaning every stitch in the canopy is there for engineering reasons. This beautiful, racy look is thus attained solely through the colouring of the panels, without a single excess seam “just for looks”.
When we reduced the number of the seams, we also made a canopy with significantly reduced pressure leakage. We created a canopy which will remain pressurised to the maximum in any flying configuration all through its expected life span, to the benefit of performance, predictability, and longevity.
New BC system!
Responding to market demands we designed a new speed BC system where the strength needed for the efficient operation has been significantly reduced. XC pilots are going to love this new option as it will make those ridge runs and valley crossings a pure joy.
Made to last!
We are using our tried-and-tested canopy material, familiar from the previous versions, as it has proved to be the best choice for the longevity of the wing. The line material combination on the Rook 3 is identical with the Queen 2. This mix of materials has been proven to make the lines remain in trim for longer. The combination of the new PPSLS and Kevlar™ lines in the right spots proved more resilient than without this combination. Oh, and yes, the Kevlar™ lines are red!
Packing small!
We put a lot of effort into creating a canopy that transfers the forces inside the canopy so evenly that fewer plastic battens are needed, and those which are there are shorter. We tried a lot of different designs in numerous prototypes and ended up with the wing that folds into a tiny package, without damaging its internal construction.
4 sizes
In line with market demands, we are planning on the same top loads in each size as for the Knight model. The MS weight range is certified from 80 to 95 kg.
The 15 kg range was chosen since we believe that any wing flown in the bottom 5 of the 20 kg range does not provide the desired feel even though it makes its way through the certification process.
The Rook 3 MS is already available for orders, with the rest of the sizes following shortly.
