Denis Soverini our team pilot was searching for this day for a long time in this bad weather season. In the end he found one that took him and Queen over the 200km barier from famous Sorica take off. Here is what he told us about it:
Weather forecasts were far from perfect: overdevelopment risk was pretty high, with some rain in the afternoon. Despite that we decided to head to Sorica launch, as we were hungry for flying before this rainy summer ends.
The risk was well paid ! We got a dream flight, with everything inside: very close ridge soaring in the morning, a low save in 0.2m/s thermal, strong 6m/s at midday, 25km/h headwind at turnpoint, mellow tailwind on the way back.
I flew my L 777 Queen at 114kg all up, and couldn’t be happier. Wing is incredibly balanced in both strong and light thermals, in tight cores it’s easy to bank it up and stay inside.
We were pushing 2/3 to full bar all the time. I got used to C risers handling and it’s definitively a must: it’s much easier to fly fast through turbulence !
Unfortunately we couldn’t push past the 200km waypoint due to overdevelopment, but we will be back !
Looking forward for the next one…
Just after few days of planing he went on again and made 230 km flight again. Well done!
